Dentist Inspired DIY Mouthwash
Take a moment to read the label on your mouth wash. Go ahead. Do you know what all of those ingredients are? Do you really want to put all of those chemicals into your body?
A few years back my husband's dentist suggested that we use a mouthwash with Tea Tree Oil. She said it was easy to make your own. And Tea Tree Oil is very good for your gums. We did some research online and designed our own mouthwash recipe from the multiple recipes we found. This is the recipe we came up with and have been using for years.
First, choose a dark colored glass jar that you can store your mouthwash in. I like this pop-top jar because it keeps my hydrogen peroxide carbonated longer.
Ingredients:
1 2/3 cup water
1 cup food grade hydrogen peroxide
1 Tablespoon xylitol (very dangerous if consumed by dogs)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
20 drops tea tree oil
1 1/2 teaspoons mint flavor
6 shakes salt
*stir all ingredients together, shake before each use.
